Sultan Mehmet II began efforts for the restoration of population in Constantinople by ordering the Greeks who had been deported as slaves or refugees due to different reasons to return to the city once again. In the same year, the construction of the Topkapi Palace began. The Palace went on to become the main residence for all the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire for almost 400 years.
