South Coast Resort Weather – Month by Month

No matter what the month of the year, the south coast of Turkey is a great place to visit. You’ll find generally mild temperatures regardless of the month, but during the summer the temperatures will soar high! Rain during this time is basically non-existent, but that doesn’t mean that summer should be the only time you consider venturing to this beautiful part of the country.

Not everyone loves hot weather, but others love it; not everyone hates rain, some people really like it. To help you decide, let’s check out a month by month brief guide to the weather you can expect in Turkey’s south coast resorts. There is one anomaly we do need to mention here however – the Antalya region is situated further east than the Dalaman and Izmir regions, and for that reason, the summer season tends to last around a month longer here than anywhere else; a great time to grab an end of summer bargain holiday!

January

This is the coldest month, and probably the wettest. Despite that, you can expect some very pleasant days on occasion, and the sun still shines in abundance! The peak temperature during the day can hit up to 15 degrees, but during the evening time, around the 4 or 5pm mark, you will notice this plummet, and it can even get down to the low single figures. Don’t worry, you won’t see snow however! What you will see is rain; Mediterranean storms can hit at this time of year on a regular basis, so rain and wind can occasionally come and batter the coastline, before disappearing just as quickly as it arrived!

February

February is a similar story to January, and it is still quite likely to rain as the second month of the year gets underway. As the month progresses however, you will notice the days getting a little longer, and the first signs of spring arriving. The rain will dwindle a little, however the odd couple of days of bad weather is still possible. By the end of February, you should be able to walk around in long sleeves, without a coat. Don’t attempt to swim in the sea however, this is very cold, despite how warm the sun may feel!

March

This is when the weather starts on the incline and the days get longer! You will notice temperatures rising as high as 20 degrees on good days, although the evenings are still cold and you will require a jacket if you’re venturing out after the 6pm mark. It can still rain, as we’re not into summer quite yet, but this is much less likely than in the last two months. You will notice much more sun, and the resorts begin to slowly welcome the odd tourist, as some bars and restaurants begin to open their doors.

April

April is another similar story, and you will notice warmer days still. As April is considered a wet month across Europe, you could still see the odd downpour at this time of year, but as the month goes on, the days get much warmer and you will feel like summer has finally arrived. The sea is still cold at this time, but by the end of April don’t be surprised if you see the odd brave tourist going for a swim!

May

Summer is here! This is the best time to visit these resorts if you’re not into high temperatures, but you still love the warmer weather perks. This is considered a shoulder season month, and the rainfall is dropping to very low amounts by this time. Yes, you could get the odd shower, but it will go as quickly a it comes, and it will clear the air to leave a fresher feel. Temperatures can reach the mid 20s at this time, and evenings are getting a little warmer, although you might still need a cardigan or very light jacket at his time.

June

June is a great month to visit the beach! The sea by this point is warm enough to swim in and the day time temperatures are reaching the high 20s and 30 degree mark. Rain is almost non-existent, especially as the month progresses, and evenings are warm enough now to go without a coat. At this point, you need to remember sun safety, as it’s entirely possible for days to be extremely hot by now. By the end of June, we’re well into the low 30s. Crowds during June begin to increase as the month goes on, but this is a great time if you want the weather, but you don’t want the high crowds of the coming months.

July

July is the start of the peak summer season and this is when you can expect the resorts to get very busy! Temperatures are high, and it can get into the high 30s during the day. Evenings are still very warm, and temperatures don’t tend to drop too much after the sun goes down. Rain is not going to bother you at this point, and you can definitely get into the sea, in fact it’s advised to cool down!

August

This is the hottest part of the year, so if you’re not into high temperatures and crowds, avoid August. Temperature can easily reach 40 degrees and the evenings are very balmy indeed. No chance of rain, and the sea is not much cooler than the air temperature! August is the peak month for people getting ill from not taking heed of sun safety, so always stay out of the sun during the middle of the day, especially during August’s heat.

September

The start of September is still very warm, and temperatures are in the mid to high 30s, with mild evenings continuing. As the month goes on however, temperature slowly begin to decline, and by he end of September you can expect day time highs of around 30 degrees on average. Rain slowly begins to reintroduce itself slightly, although if a downpour does happen, it will be over very quickly and you’ll be glad of the fresher air!

October

October is a very popular time to visit, because prices are lower and temperatures are still very good! You can expect around 27-30 degrees, but rain can become a problem, especially as the month progresses. You can however have some great stretches of time without any rain at all, but then one day when it rains for a couple of hours. The sea is still warm, although by the end of the month you’ll probably not be able to stay in for too long! Evenings are quite chilly at this time of year, so remember a jacket or cardigan if you’re heading out after sundown.

November

November is a great time to visit if you want cooler temperatures but still plenty of sun. It can rain, but it’s not going to be prolonged, unlike the months to come. You can expect mid 20s temperatures during the day, and as the 5pm mark approaches, the cooler air will make it feel around the low teens; this is great for sleeping comfortably! It’s probably best to avoid the sea now however! As we mentioned the Antalya region is a little warmer at this time, and the summer season here ends at the end of November, as opposed to the end of October like the other regions.

December

The final month of the year can be a mixed bag, but you can expect much cooler temperatures and more chance of rain, especially toward the end of the month. Having said that, this is a great time to enjoy a chilled out feel around the resorts. You can expect temperatures to reach the high teens and drop to the high single figures during the evening hours. Rain is more prevalent however, and again, the sea is a no-go!
